Car Control's Basic report costs £3.99 and its Premium report costs £6.99, both including VAT. Basic covers mileage, MOT history, a market valuation and the factory specification. Premium adds outstanding finance, insurance write-off and stolen records, plus plate changes and previous keepers. It is a one-off payment with no subscription, and the preview is free.
What a car history check tells you
A used car can look perfect on the drive and still carry a history that costs you money: a wound-back odometer, an old insurance write-off, a finance agreement nobody paid off. A car history check pulls the official and commercial records for the registration so you can see that history before you hand over any money.
Car Control puts everything in one report, written so you can read it standing next to the car.
What's in each report
Basic report, £3.99
- Every MOT mileage reading on a timeline and chart
- Warnings for readings lower than an earlier one, long gaps between tests and unreadable odometers
- Every MOT failure, dangerous and major defect, and advisory
- Problems that keep coming back, such as corrosion, brakes or tyres
- Tax status, MOT expiry, the date of the latest V5C logbook and CO2 figure
- Average mileage compared with the national average
- A market valuation: dealer forecourt, private sale, part exchange, trade and auction values
- The factory specification: power, torque, 0-60, top speed, mpg, Euro NCAP rating, dimensions and weight
- A ULEZ and Clean Air Zone indication, the annual vehicle tax (VED) rate and an estimated yearly fuel cost
Premium report, £6.99
Everything in Basic, plus the car's commercial history:
- Insurance write-off and damage records
- Outstanding finance and stolen vehicle checks
- Scrapped, imported and exported status
- Plate changes, colour changes and the number of previous keepers
Checking more than one car? 3 Premium reports cost £12.99, about £4.33 each, and the 2 spare credits last 12 months.
Why start with the free preview
Before you pay, the preview confirms the make, model, colour and year, so you know you have the right car, and shows how many MOT tests and mileage readings we hold for it. Then choose the report that answers your questions: Basic for mileage, MOT, valuation and specification, Premium to add write-off, finance and stolen checks.
Where the data comes from
MOT and mileage records come from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), and vehicle details from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), under the Open Government Licence. Write-off, finance, stolen and keeper data comes from a UK commercial vehicle data supplier. Read more about our data sources.
What no history check can do
Records only show what was reported. No report can tell you the car's condition today, whether it was serviced, or whether a record is wrong, and we don't offer a data guarantee. Use the report alongside a proper look at the car, the V5C logbook and the service history.
